On September 15th, 2020, during ICT Spring, the 2019/2020 season of Pitch Your Startup came to an end. Descartes Underwriting won the competition and the €50,000 cash prize cross-categories offered by Docler Holding. Three pitch events took place from November 2019 to September 2020, with more than 320 applications from 8 categories.
The day started with the last semi-final round, with 36 exciting startups presenting their innovative solutions and services to a jury of seasoned professionals. After an intense pitching session, jury members got together and selected the winners of each category:
• Zekato, which specializes in lossless data compression, won the Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data category,
• OneStock Retail which provides their clients with an Order Management System based on stock unification and order orchestration and, Searoutes, which builds greener supply chains by recommending container routes with lower carbon footprints, were both exceptionally named winners of the Supply Chain category,
• and Lybero.net, which focuses on its own encrypted drive secured by web cryptography, combining encryption and a patented technology, won the Cybersecurity category.
The Grand Finale
The four startups then faced the other finalists, as all participants were offered complimentary coaching sessions, behind closed doors, delivered by Docler Holding in collaboration with Guy Benzeno, Founder of Center Stage.
As a reminder, Hunteed won the HR Tech category - which took place last November - during the first edition of Human Capital Europe. Right before the nationwide lockdown and during the European Finance Summit, jury members awarded Sikoba winners of the Fintech category, Insquary of the Regtech category, and Descartes Underwriting of the Insurtech category.
The eight startups pitched - either virtually or in person in Luxembourg - for 5 minutes and took part in two-minute Q&A sessions from 7:45 pm to 8:55 pm. After a period of deliberation, the overall winner of this year’s Pitch Your Startup edition was named: Violaine Raybaud, Head of Business Development of Descartes Underwriting took the prize home to France for her team. Although they stressed that it was a very difficult decision to make - as all 8 finalists were impressive - the jury members underlined the fact that the aforementioned startup tackles real problems exceptionally, that their solution has great potential and, above all, that they have built great commercial traction within such a tiny bit of time. Violaine Raybaud declared that the InsurTech startup is “thrilled to continue making businesses more resilient across the globe”.
The jury members of the Grand Finale were none other than Priscila Chaves (Tech Ethnicist & Impact Entrepreneur), Philippe Linster (CEO, House of Startups), Julia Zhou (Communications Director, Kairos Society Europe), Kolos Kaszaly (CTO, Docler Holding), Amélie Madinier (Director, Hub@Luxembourg Le Village by CA), Diane Tea (Board Director & Tech Investor, Luxembourg Business Angel Network), Yannick Oswald (Principal, Mangrove Capital Partners) and François Giotto (Senior Innovation Officer, BIL).
